I'm Steven Hartman - a music teacher and performer.

Picture
I'm a private music teacher out of Camrose, Alberta, Canada.  I teach drums, bass, ukulele, voice and guitar.  I'm a believer in teaching versatility in music - not just learning to play songs but learning how to play music.

Before I began studying music, I was an artist and actor.  I enjoyed performing and memorizing scripts.  In my grade school years I played saxophone and sang in many-a choirs both in school and with groups through my church.  I participated in the Alberta Honour Choir in high school and played in almost every musical group I could in high school.   In grade 11/12 I started beating the drums.  After high school I entered into a Bachelor of Music program at Augustana University College in Classical Performance - Voice.  During my time in the program I started learning bass by joining a jazz combo requiring a bass playing, and picked up the guitar soon after.  I've been teaching private music lessons since around 2003.

To the present - I am an avid bass player, drummer and guitarist.  I play electric and double (upright) bass with the Battle River Big Band, and I'm always open to freelance gigs.

Welcome to Noah!

This season, I will be having another teacher in my studio!  His name is Noah and he'll be taking students on Friday evenings from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and teaching flute and guitar.

Noah Van Hyfte is in his second year at the University of Alberta’s Augustana Campus, pursuing a Bachelor of Music with a focus on voice. Alongside his vocal studies, he is a versatile multi-instrumentalist with experience on piano, guitar, flute, trombone, and drums. Passionate about exploring new sounds, he enjoys experimenting with different instruments and expanding his musical skills. His wide-ranging interests reflect both a dedication to classical training and a curiosity for creative expression across genres.

If you'd like to sign up with Noah you can either sign-up here (in the Additional Information add "Noah") or e-mail me directly at [email protected].
